Professional Resin Infusion Catch Pot Resin Trap

A vacuum resin trap catch pot, commonly referred to as a catch pot or resin trap, is a specialized device used in various vacuum and resin infusion processes to manage and contain resin flow, prevent contamination, and protect vacuum systems. This comprehensive guide will delve into the principles, applications, benefits, and considerations associated with vacuum resin trap catch pots.

Introduction to Vacuum Resin Trap Catch Pots:

Vacuum resin infusion processes are widely used in industries such as composites manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, and marine construction. To ensure successful and high-quality outcomes, it's crucial to manage the flow of resin and prevent it from reaching sensitive vacuum equipment. A vacuum resin trap catch pot serves as a key component in these processes by capturing excess resin and protecting the vacuum system from potential damage or contamination.

The resin infusion catch pot is manufactured from Annealed Powder Coated mild steel and base, for a hard wearing and chemical resistant finish. The Burhani Engineering Technology sturdy resin infusion catch pot features a laser finished 12 mm unbreakable clear lid which allow good visibility into the pot during usage. A heavy duty custom made silicone rubber provides positive seal and a high quality vacuum gauge with airtight resin line and Two vacuum line connections which are Inlet and Outlet.

The resin trap vacuum chamber is designed so that paper liners are easily replaced to avoid fouling the inside of the pot. Burhani Engineering Technology also provide Liners to ensure resin vacuum trap chamber provides best performance with the availability of replacement Lids, Silicone Seals and pneumatic fittings.

Principles of Vacuum Resin Trap Catch Pots

The primary principle behind a vacuum resin trap catch pot is to create a reservoir where excess resin and volatile compounds can accumulate without reaching the vacuum pump or other sensitive components. By strategically placing the catch pot in the resin flow path, the system prevents resin from entering areas where it could cause damage or interfere with the vacuum process.

Description

This resin catch-pot is designed specifically for small to medium scale resin infusion projects. The catch-pot sits between your vacuum pump and the resin infusion project ensuring that any excess resin from the infusion is not drawn down the vacuum line and into the vacuum pump, preventing damage or total destruction of the pump.

The catch-pot has a see-through lid so that you can keep an eye on resin accumulating inside the catch-pot (in catch-pot liners) and includes a barb-type fittings to allow easy connection of the vacuum line and an easy-to-tighten fitting for the resin line from your infusion project (hoses not included).
* Each catch-pot is vacuum tested before shipping.

Fitting/Thread Information
  • The lid is connected to the vacuum pump via the 8mm brass hose-tail barb connector using a 8mm ID Silicone Vacuum Hose.
  • The vacuum bag or resin infusion project is connected to the catch-pot by through the black plastic gland nut. The gland nut is also designed to accept a 9mm OD hose, such as our 6mm ID Clear PVC Hose. To ensure a permanent, reliable and airtight seal the lid of our catch-pot comes with the vacuum gauge, gland connector and hose-tail barb (push) fitting already screwed and bonded into place. Although not designed to be removed, the vacuum gauge and 8mm hose-tail barb both screw into the lid using a 1/4 BSP thread.
  • We also sell the Glycerine-Filled Vacuum Gauge, 6mm ID (9mm OD) Clear PVC Hose, 8mm ID Silicone Vacuum Hose and Hose-Tail Barbs separately.
  • Resin traps come complete with glycerin-filled vacuum gauge, fittings for use with 1/4″ vacuum tubing, brass ball valve and instruction manual.
  • Capture excess resin and protect your pump! Measuring range of vacuum gauge:0-29.25inHg.
  • Unique Catch Port Design: An additional hose can be installed at the port inside the tank to facilitate accurate collection of resin.
  • 5 Feet Reinforced Vacuum Hosing Connect Directly To Vacuum Pump 1/4″ SAE.
  • Silicone gasket to be used over 10,000 times without deterioration.
  • FRP Vacuum Resin trap.

One key piece of equipment that is important to understand is the Resin Trap.

  1. A resin trap is an airtight container placed within the vacuum tubing circuit between the laminate and the pump to catch any excess resin before it can enter and destroy the vacuum pump.
  2. When set up properly, the vacuum tubing will flow out of the laminate and connect directly to the resin trap.
  3. A separate tube will then leave the resin trap and connect to the vacuum pump.

Protect your pump with Burhani Engineering Technology stainless steel resin trap catch pot. The resin Trap pot creates a space between resin and vacuum pump, so that resin falls into the pot instead of getting sucked into the pump and destroying its blade. The Resin pot is best for vacuum infusion process. Once the excess resin is filled in the trap, the Resin is put back into the reservoir tank. The Chamber is fitted with rubber gasket.

Vacuum Catch Pot with Gauges.

The catch port is a vacuum chamber helpful in composite work to complete your project successfully. This Chamber has 1 fitting for gauge and other 2 fittings are for pump and resin . It also has pressure control and resin control valve.

Applications of Vacuum Resin Trap Catch Pots:

1. Composites Manufacturing: In industries such as aerospace and automotive, vacuum resin trap catch pots are used to prevent excess resin from entering vacuum lines during processes like resin infusion, ensuring consistent part quality and preventing contamination.
2. Marine and Wind Energy: Boat hulls, wind turbine blades, and other large composite structures benefit from resin trap catch pots to manage resin flow and achieve uniform resin distribution.
3. Fiber Optic Cable Production: Vacuum resin trap catch pots are utilized to manage the flow of resins and coatings during the manufacturing of fiber optic cables, preventing resin accumulation in critical areas.
4. Art Conservation: In restoration and conservation projects, resin trap catch pots help manage the flow of resins and adhesives, ensuring precise application and preventing unwanted drips or spills.
5. Research and Development: Vacuum resin trap catch pots play a crucial role in experimental setups involving vacuum processes and resin applications, providing control over resin flow and minimizing the risk of system damage

Benefits of Vacuum Resin Trap Catch Pots:

1. System Protection: Catch pots safeguard vacuum pumps, valves, and other components by preventing resin or volatile compounds from reaching and potentially damaging these sensitive parts.
2. Contamination Prevention: By capturing excess resin, catch pots prevent contamination of vacuum lines and equipment, leading to more consistent and higher-quality outcomes.
3. Reduced Maintenance: Catch pots reduce the need for frequent cleaning and maintenance of vacuum equipment, saving time and minimizing downtime.
4. Improved Process Control: Resin trap catch pots allow for better control over resin flow, ensuring uniform distribution and accurate application.
5. Enhanced Safety: Catch pots minimize the risk of resin spills or leaks, which can pose safety hazards and require special cleanup procedures.

Considerations for Using Vacuum Resin Trap Catch Pots:

1.Positioning: Proper placement of the catch pot within the resin flow path is critical to effectively capture excess resin and prevent it from entering the vacuum system.
2. Design and Capacity: The design and size of the catch pot should be chosen based on the resin flow rate, process requirements, and the volume of excess resin expected.
3. Material Compatibility: The catch pot material should be compatible with the type of resin being used to prevent chemical reactions or degradation.
4. Regular Maintenance: Periodic cleaning and maintenance of the catch pot are necessary to prevent resin buildup and ensure consistent performance.
5. Flow Monitoring: Monitoring resin flow and the level of resin accumulation in the catch pot helps ensure that the system operates within the desired parameters.
